When  is the race day?
The city of Pescara will host IRONMAN 70.3 Italy Pescara Abruzzo on June 10, 2012, qualifying for the 2012 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship – Lake Las Vegas in Henderson, NV.

Course Description:
Pescara is situated at the sea level on the Adriatic coast, 180 k east from Rome, placed in the region with open views from the mountain chains to the sea between wide National Parks. The race starts at 08:00 a.m. with 1.9 k swim; the course takes place in the calm and temperate water typical of the Adriatic Sea, to continue with 90 k bike course surrounded by green hills covered with olive trees and vineyards. The run course covering 21.1 k begins on the palm-lined promenade along the beautiful beach to cross the finish line in the heart of the city.

Athletes Garden:
Here you can find showers, refreshments, a place to relax and hang out. You´ll also get your IRONMAN Finisher Certificate and your IRONMAN Finisher Shirt there. Only athletes and medical staff as well as the organisation team will have access to the Athlete’s Garden. The whole place is intended to create a beautiful and quiet atmosphere to help you relax and recover from a great day of hard “racework“.

Where is Pescara?
Pescara is situated at sea level on the Adriatic coast, on the same parallel as Rome, has a typical Mediterranean climate with dry, hot summers, rainy winters and high humidity over the year. Its sandy beaches extend for over 20 uninterrupted km. Pescara is a coastal city but its climate is influenced by the surrounding mountains the Maiella and the chain of Gran Sasso. Abruzzo International Airport, approximately 4 km far away from the centre of Pescara, offers regular flight from/to Frankfurt-Hahn, Barcelona, Eindhoven, London, Milan, Paris  http://www.abruzzoairport.com. Taxis are available outside the arrival area that runs from the airport to the city centre every 15 minutes. Pescara is providing a direct access to the highway network serving Italy’s major cities. Is there an official race hotel?
Yes, the “Serena Majestic **** Hotel Residence”. The hotel is well prepared to accommodate and serve the athletes. During the race week special rates are available for participants and their families.  For more details please have a look at IRON-Village.

What is the Refund/ Withdrawal Policy?
until  February 10, 2012: 50 % reimbursement
until  April 10, 2011: 25 % reimbursement
after April 10, 2011: no reimbursement

It is not possible to defer the slot to another athlete.

The World Triathlon Corporation introduces a new “Race Transfer Policy” for all European and South African Ironman and Ironman 70.3 races. This initiative has been shaped by the opinions of hundreds of Ironman athletes.

Effective immediately, the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC) will substantially change its withdrawal policy for all European and South African Ironman and Ironman 70.3 races (Ironman 70.3 Antwerp (July 22, 2012) excluded). For an administration fee of 29 Euro, athletes can transfer their race entry regardless of their reason, and all athletes already entered, or signing up for an Ironman and Ironman 70.3(1) race prior to December 31, 2011 are automatically enrolled.

WTC’s existing policy which allows for an athlete’s cancellation of a race remains untouched by the new program.

Race Transfer Policy / Rules

• all athletes that sign up for an Ironman or Ironman 70.3 race in Europe or South Africa before December 31, 2011 are automatically enrolled. Athletes can still withdraw and receive a refund according to the existing rules. However, the race entries can now be transferred up until two months prior to the date of the race the athlete originally signed up for.

• it is not possible to transfer an entry more than once. Race entry transfers are 29 Euro regardless of the reason for the athlete’s transfer.

• entries for races before August 25, 2012 can only be transferred to races within the same calendar year. Entriesfor races after August 25th can be transferred to any race prior to June 30, 2013.

• race entries cannot be transferred to any sold-out Ironman or Ironman 70.3 event.

• upgrades between Ironman 70.3 and Ironman races are possible, the fee of 29 Euro and the difference in the entry fee will be charged.

• it is also possible to downgrade a race, although the difference in entry fee will not be refunded.

• race entries cannot be transferred to another athlete

“Race Transfer Policy” / Step By Step

• athletes withdrawal form to be downloaded here “Withdrawal Form”. They need to complete it and send it to withdrawal@ironman.com.

• athletes opting for a transfer will pay 29 Euro and receive a code that’ll allow them to sign up for an alternate race. In case of an upgrade or a difference in entry fees athletes will receive the code after paying for the transfer and the entry fee difference.

Do I need to qualify, validate or confirm my entry by completing another event?
No, competitors do not need to qualify or validate to enter IRONMAN 70.3 Italy. However, we do suggest competing in a shorter distance triathlon event before race day.

Is there a waiting list for the races when they are sold out?
No, we don’t offer a waiting list.

Are there age requirements?
Entrants must be 18 years of age on race day. Participants entering the race at 17 years of age need a parental permission.

What age group will I race in on race day?
All qualifying events will implement the World Triathlon Corporation rule: All age group athletes must compete in the age group division corresponding to the athlete’s age on December 31, of the year of the event.

Will there be official merchandise?
Yes. Please come by our expo on the days before the race and visit our expo booth offering official IRONMAN 70.3 Italy merchandise.

Race Photos

Who do I contact regarding race photos?

FinisherPix is proud to be selected as the Official Photo Service of the IRONMAN 70.3 Italy. FinisherPix will have several photographers working at the swim exit, on the bike course, on the run course, and of course, at the Finish Line! In addition, FinisherPix will have photographers positioned after the finish where you can have a photo taken after you receive your medal.

So what do you need to do?
1. Register your email address at www.finisherpix.com to be notified as soon as photos are online
2. Please be sure you have your number visible on the FRONT of your bike helmet so we can identify your cycling photos
3. Please be sure to keep your bib number visible on the FRONT of your body during the run & at the finish line so we can identify your photos.

How many slots to the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship?
There will be 35 qualifying Age Group slots to the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship September 9, 2012 – Lake Las Vegas in Henderson, NV  - on offer at the 2012 Ironman 70.3 Italy.

How many qualifying slots are there for IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship 2012 and how are they distributed?
At least one slot shall be allocated to each five-year age group category in which any age group athlete sends in an application, both male and female, per the age group categories listed above. If there are no athletes entered in the race in a particular age group, then that slot will be moved to the largest populated age group in that same gender. For additional age group slots, slot allocation shall be representative of the actual number of age grouper applicants in each category in the race. As an example, if 8% of the age-group applicants are females 40-44, then 8% of these slots would be allocated in the female 40-44 category.

What is the race week schedule?

Will my entry include Pasta Party?
Yes. All athletes receive complimentary entry into the Pasta Party with their athlete wristband.

How do I purchase banquet tickets for family and friends?

It is possible to purchase additional tickets for IRONMAN 70.3 Italy on-site at the Race Office.

Will wetsuits be  allowed?
Yes, up to a water temperature of 24.5°C. It can be assumed that this temperature will not be exceeded and wetsuits will be allowed. In case it is forbidden to swim a wetsuit, it is also forbidden to swim a swimsuit with percentage of rubber and/or neoprene. Please observe that the final ruling will be announced in the pre race briefing.

Are disk wheels allowed?
Yes. Race organizers reserve the right to restrict use depending on conditions.

Spectator Info

Can I take my car on the race course to watch my athlete?
No, for safety reasons we ask that you do not attempt to follow your athlete by car. The best place to watch your athlete is in the start, swim exit, transition area and the finish line. Any vehicular traffic on the race course should expect long delays. Please do not attempt to gain access to the race course with your vehicle. We will provide complete road closure for our athletes’ safety.

Will I be allowed to cross the finish line with my athlete?
Friends and/or family members will no longer be permitted to cross the finish line or enter the finish chute with participating athletes. This policy will allow each competitor adequate time to celebrate their accomplishment without interfering with other finishers and ensure the safety of all participants, volunteers and fans.

Will I be allowed into the finish line area to greet my athlete?
Unfortunately, due to high congestion in the finish line area, no spectators will be allowed. Please do not try to gain access to this area, as it must remain clear for the safety of the athletes. Before the event, you and your athlete should decide on a meeting place for after they have finished.

Will I be allowed into the medical tent to look for my athlete if they have not arrived at our meeting destination?
The Medical Tent is highly congested and spectators will not be allowed in. There will be a Medical Information Tent next to the Medical Tent where medical updates will be available on athletes who enter the Medical Tent.

What is the Ironman Village?
The Ironman Village features various booths – including a showcase of IRONMAN Store, exhibitors and Bike Shop, as well as many other services and products. It provides a perfect gathering and meeting place for athletes and spectators.

What is the prize money
The first 5 men and women in the Pro-Category of the Ironman 70.3 Italy will receive prize money.

The prize money of US$ 15’000 will be distributed equally to the men and women as follows:
1st place:            US$ 3’000
2nd place:           US$ 2’000
3rd place:            US$ 1’250
4th place:            US$ 750
5th place:            US$ 500

The prize money will be paid out after the results of the doping tests have been received. Please note that the tax at source will have to be deducted from payments to athletes from outside Italy. The prizes for the athletes of the age group must be collected personally at the awards ceremony. No prizes will be sent by mail.
